Amuneke signs 30 players, aims to restore Heartland FC's former glory

Heartland FC has announced the signing of 30 new players ahead of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL season, which is set to kick off this weekend. The move comes shortly after the NPFL confirmed that Heartland FC would take the spot of Beyond Limits Football Academy, which withdrew due to concerns over dual interest. Heartland is the only one of the four relegated teams from last season to return to the NPFL.

To revive the fortunes of the club, former Super Eagles player Emmanuel Amuneke was appointed as the head coach. Throughout a month long intensive screening process, Amuneke approved the signing of 30 players to build a new Heartland FC capable of competing for the NPFL title. At a ceremony held at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, the newly signed players were introduced to the public. Amuneke expressed confidence in the players, describing them as "young, fit, energetic, and capable of restoring Heartland FC's lost glory.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who is the club’s chief financier, reiterated his support for the team, stating that Heartland FC is ready to win the NPFL title this season with the help of the newly signed players and experienced technical staff led by Amuneke.

Heartland will begin their campaign on Sunday with a home match against Enyimba, one of the biggest fixtures in the Oriental Derby.
